a "new" blog

a "new" blog
you are on a computer RIGHT NOW

Look, I've tried this blog thing several times. It's not that I don't have things to write about, it's more so that I was never happy with the interface I was using. The only one I seemed to like was Substack and I wanted something I could have a bit more control over.

With the impending death of Cohost on the horizon (or if you are reading this later, then no longer impending) I've decided once again that maybe I should just make my own space on the internet.

Being at the tail end of Millennials, I've always felt myself in weird position on the internet. I remember the old days but not the Old Days™. My first real look at my own space on the web was a yahoo.com email and a Facebook account. My parents were much too strict to allow me to have anything else (probably for the best in the end.) We've come a long way since then. (Which way we've gone is highly debatable.) I've never been a huge poster on social media as a result, but places like Cohost, Mastodon and Bluesky certainly have me posting more than I ever did on Facebook or Twitter. Cohost let me glimpse the way the internet was. It's a shame it's shutting down, but maybe it'll be back in some form or another. Micro-blogging sites should really embrace letting people screw around with CSS.

I've spent a Saturday morning (a beautiful sunny September 14th, 2024) messing around with Ghost and getting everything to what I feel is an acceptable place for a personal blog/website. Part of the fun is messing around in the back end and making small changes. Ghost has been much easier to mess around with than something like WordPress, which was waaaaaaay more than I needed to post about whatever is consuming my brain space. I'm looking forward to posting more and not dealing with the bloated mass of WordPress.

I think you can expect me to write a bit about what I'm playing/watching and what I'm up to from time to time. There might even be some fictional stories I've written for TTRPGs I've been in. I even have Tags for my blog, wow! Maybe I'll even post weekly! (lol)

If you want to keep up with me, you can add me to your RSS feed using Ghost's built in RSS feed or you can follow me on Mastodon or Bluesky.
